First Refugees Registered Using Blockchain

Categories: social, technology, governance

What? Bitnation, a do-it-yourself distributed governance platform, has recently registered the first refugees on the blockchain. Bitnation's refugee response initiative is assisting undocumented refugees to obtain a "Blockchain Emergency ID", traceable on the blockchain that can replace other identification documents and assist refugees to obtain social assistance and other benefits. Refugees are also eligible for a Bitnation Bitcoin Visa debit card on which they can receive donations or pay bills without the hassle of going through a bank.

So what? This is an interesting development in citizens' organizations bypassing government and private sector businesses in new ways.
