What? In July, 2016 German automaker Daimler launched its first all-electric heavy duty truck. The 26-ton vehicle has a 200-kilometre-range, and Daimler plans to start mass production within a decade, anticipating what batteries that are cheaper and more powerful will become available. Tesla and MAN Truck and Bus Company have also announced plans to manufacture e-trucks.

However, the rise of e-truck may be a tipping point in changing the perception of e-vehicles and their practicality for everyday use. Daimler's unveiling of its e-truck highlights Germany's growing role as a world-leader in e-vehicles, with recent innovations and developments in the sector by German car manufacturers VW, Audi, Mercedes Benz, and BMW including the successful testing of a semi-autonomous electric bus.
