What? DisneyLife is a new service being released in China in a partnership between Disney and Alibaba. Alibaba is a Chinese e-commerce giant responsible for roughly 80% of online sales in China. DisneyLife will offer movie, television and gaming entertainment as well as provide a portal for theme parks and merchandise. The family service, experienced through a unique Mickey Mouse head-shaped device, will be an all-encompassing platform for every Disney product.
So what? As brands develop web portals, they are infiltrating our lives, or portions of it. An emerging digital service economy will have many such brand gateways. Families may associate with a few important brands, creating an environment where the “brand” is present in nearly every childhood memory.
